From Malin Head with love. Ineuran Bay cottage just round the corner from Ireland's most Northerly point nestles safely above the waves.

Amidst storm Isha recently, my Queen and I took a wee tour around the tip of the Inishowen Peninsula to see the waves and the beautiful coastline. We met two lovely ladies from Kilkenny braving the storm on a long walk from their local rental. Fair play to them because even the animals in the fields were sheltering from the driving gale force winds! From there toured around Malin Head then headed back to Knockamany Bens through hail, wind and rain near delightful cliff edges on this majestic part of the "Inishowen 100". Bliss :)

The cottages is described in the National Inventroy of Architectural Heritage as being built cira 1840 to 1880 in Ardmalin, Donegal and "A good example of this type of vernacular thatched dwelling in good condition and incorporating a modern thatched extension to the rear. Retains features of interest including thatch with latticed restraint, sash windows and a windbreak porch together with an outbuilding incorporating external steps to the first floor that are features of vernacular architecture in this region. The rounded pitched roof, designed to minimise the impact of high winds, demonstrates a subtle adaptation of thatch roof construction, to accommodate local climatic conditions in exposed areas such as Inishowen. An increasingly rare type, its continued use, sympathetic maintenance and repairs have safeguarded its character."

One of my favourite places to overlook from the viewpoint above on a stormy day or a sunny day and you can actually rent the cottage out.
